A proper role with room to grow
Smart Heat Experts Ltd is growing, and we're looking for the right person to join the team long term. The ideal engineer will already be confident with plumbing and heating work, hold the right gas qualifications, and care about doing a clean, safe and professional job.
You'll be working across boiler servicing, heating repairs, general plumbing, breakdowns, installations and everyday customer work. Over time, there will also be opportunities to develop further into air conditioning, heat pumps and renewables.
We care about qualifications, but we also care about attitude. We want someone who turns up properly, communicates well, respects customers' homes and wants to keep improving.

Local work across Haywards Heath and Mid Sussex, in customers' homes every day.
Pay matched to your experience, ability and ambition
We know not every good engineer is at the same stage.
Some engineers are already strong across servicing, repairs and fault-finding. Others have the right qualifications, a great attitude and want the chance to grow into higher-value work.
That is why we do not want to box the role into one flat salary. The package will be matched to your current ability, experience, customer care and long-term potential.
Growth Engineer

Senior Fault-Finding Engineer
£48,000 to £52,000 plus
For a highly capable engineer with strong diagnostic skill, customer care and leadership potential.
This level is for someone who brings serious value from day one. You may be strong on boiler breakdowns, heating fault-finding, system design, controls, customer explanation, mentoring or renewables and air conditioning experience.
Best fit for
- Strong boiler breakdown and fault-finding ability
- Excellent customer care
- High standards of workmanship
- Confident working independently
- Able to support other engineers as the business grows
- Experience with controls, air conditioning, heat pumps or renewables would be a bonus
A higher package is available for the right person.
Future Progression
Route beyond £52,000
For engineers who grow with the company and take on more responsibility.
As Smart Heat Experts grows, there may be future opportunities to move into senior engineer, lead engineer, survey, design, training or technical support roles.
Progression will be based on skill, reliability, customer feedback, job quality, communication, training completed and the value you bring to the team.
This is a role with room to build a future, not just fill a seat.
The figures above are guide ranges. Final package will depend on qualifications, experience, attitude, capability and the level of responsibility agreed. We are happy to have a proper conversation with the right person.
Package highlights
Why join us?
We are not looking for one fixed type of engineer. We are looking for the right person.
If you are qualified, reliable, good with customers and want to keep improving, there is room to grow here.
If you are already highly experienced in boiler breakdowns, fault-finding, controls or renewables, there is room for a stronger package and more responsibility.
How the working year fits together
Our work follows the seasons. Winter is our busiest and most structured time, when customers rely on us most, so you put in some extra weekday hours through the colder months.
Those extra winter hours are banked and given straight back to you in the summer. There is no standard weekend working, your weekends stay protected, and from July to October you get earned Friday finishes, giving you more of the summer to yourself.
It is a simple, fair trade. You work a little more when we are busiest, and take more time back when things are quieter, with predictable weekday hours and a genuine focus on work life balance.
This role could be right for you if…
This probably is not the right fit if…
We want to be honest from the start. This role needs someone who cares about standards, customers and the way they represent the company.

The future of the trade
Heating is changing. Gas work is still important, but air conditioning, heat pumps and renewables are becoming a bigger part of what customers ask for. We want someone who is open to that future.
You do not need to know everything already. But you do need the right attitude, the right base skills and the willingness to keep learning.
